Community Service
As one of our Core S.H.I.E.L.D. values, service is at the heart of our mission at John Paul II Catholic School. While students are encouraged to seek opportunities for service, we do not simply ask our students to “check a box” by meeting a minimum requirement; instead, we provide students with multiple opportunities to serve our school community, local parishes and missions, our greater community, and through our Annual Senior Mission Trip, far beyond. Our hope is that every one of our students discovers the beautiful and intrinsic desire to live out the Good News in service to others.
Additionally, with SERVICE as the starting point of our S.H.I.E.L.D. values, we made the decision a few years ago to emphasize the importance of living our lives centered on caring for our community on the feast day of our patron, Saint John Paul II. As we celebrate the life and ministry of Pope John Paul II, we remember these words, “…we are the sum of the Father's love for us and our real capacity to become the image of His Son Jesus.” And there is no better way to become the image of Jesus Christ than through service to our community.
Community Service Forms are available online. Students are to fill them out and submit to his/her Theology teacher in order for hours to be documented. The forms need to be signed by a person representing the organization where the service was performed . Service is expected to be from an organization, church or school. In an effort to allow students to explore various forms and areas of service, we encourage them to seek service opportunities from multiple sources and not from just one specific type or source of service. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact JPII campus minister, Mr. Joseph Rivera. |
Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.
