Wrestling with Success: JPII Athletes Honored as NWCA High School Scholar All-Americans

Six wrestlers from John Paul II Catholic School have been honored with the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) High School Scholar All-American Award. This impressive accolade recognizes varsity wrestlers who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, demonstrating the balance between their academic achievements and athletic skill.​

The NWCA Scholar All-America Award celebrates wrestlers who not only prove exceptional ability on the mat but also maintain commendable academic records. According to the National Wrestling Coaches Association, a record-breaking 4,034 individuals earned this honor, underscoring the significance of this achievement. ​

JPII head varsity wrestling coach, Greg Lonz, reflected on the team's accomplishments: "Our Scholar All-Americans have executed a perfect takedown in balancing their rigorous academic schedules with the demands of varsity wrestling,” he said. “Their dedication is a testament to the relentless spirit we cultivate at JPII. These student-athletes have shown they can grapple with the toughest of challenges, both in the classroom and on the mat.​”
