Three Golden Warriors Sign Letters of Intent to Compete at the Collegiate Level

John Paul II Catholic School proudly celebrated the collegiate signings of three standout student-athletes who will be continuing their athletic and academic careers at the next level. Senior Golden Warriors Trenton LaFountain, Lukas Yackley, and James Hook each signed their letters of intent surrounded by teammates, coaches, and family members who cheered them on in a special ceremony held at JPII.

Trenton LaFountain, a skilled midfielder and relentless competitor, signed to play men’s soccer at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. The Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets are an NCAA Division III program and members of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Trenton’s speed, vision, and determination made him a vital force on the pitch for the Golden Warriors.

Lukas Yackley, a powerhouse defensive lineman known for his grit and leadership, signed with Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee. Lukas will not only be competing in football at Maryville, he will also be participating in Track & Field.  The Maryville Scots compete in NCAA Division III as part of the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) and USA South for football. Lukas anchored JPII’s defensive front and was a key part of the team’s success over the past seasons. Lukas leaves JPII as the record holder in both shotput and discus.  He ranks in the top 20 in the State of SC in the Shotput.

James Hook, a long-distance dynamo, signed to run Cross-Country at Converse University in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The Converse Valkyries compete in NCAA Division II and are members of Conference Carolinas. James consistently led the pack for the Golden Warriors and demonstrated elite endurance and discipline throughout his high school career.

JPII Athletic Director Louise Sanders praised the trio for their hard work, dedication, and character both on and off the field:

“These three student-athletes have shown what it means to be true Golden Warriors—gritty, passionate, and driven. Their commitment to excellence has paid off, and we couldn’t be more proud of them. It’s an incredible moment for our program and a shining example for our younger athletes.”

She added, “Trenton, Lukas, and James have each left their mark at JPII. We’re excited to watch them shine in their new arenas and carry their Golden Warrior spirit into college competition.”

The signings mark yet another proud chapter in JPII’s growing athletic tradition and a celebration of the school’s mission to form well-rounded, faith-driven leaders.
