JPII’s Blake Hubik Signs to Run Cross Country at The Citadel

The finish line came into view this week for John Paul II Catholic School senior Blake Hubik, who officially signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic career running cross country at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. Surrounded by teammates, coaches, family, and classmates, Blake celebrated a milestone years in the making—one earned through grit, heart, and countless miles on the road.

After JPII Chaplain Fr. Perry prayed and gave thanks for Blake's God-given talents, Athletic Director Tom Smith recognized Blake as an athlete whose work ethic and resilience have defined his high school career. “Cross country is a sport that demands more than physical ability,” AD Smith said. “It takes resilience, mental toughness, and a willingness to push through discomfort. And throughout his high school career, Blake has shown all of that and more.”

From pre-dawn runs to long summer training sessions, Blake built a reputation for outworking the competition. Blake showed the determination of a true runner—always lacing up again, always pushing for the next stride, always choosing the difficult path that leads to growth, emphasized Mr. Smith praising Blake’s commitment to excellence, adding, “This accomplishment didn’t happen by accident. It took support from coaches who challenged him, teammates who pushed him, and family who believed in him. Thank you to all of you for helping make this day possible.”

As Blake looks ahead to joining the Bulldogs’ cross country program, the JPII community celebrates a runner who has left everything on the course—every practice, every race, every season.

Congratulations, Blake! Your Golden Warrior family is incredibly proud of you. The next chapter is yours—now go run it down.
