JPII DECA Delivers Outstanding Results at Regionals — A Showcase of Leadership and Talent!

John Paul II Catholic School’s DECA chapter delivered an outstanding performance at the Regional Conference in Charleston this week, showcasing academic excellence, professional poise, and the kind of innovative thinking that defines our future business leaders.

DECA is an international organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, business management, and entrepreneurship. Through competitive events, role-play scenarios, and real-world case studies, students develop 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity—skills that translate directly into college and career readiness.

Yesterday, 36 of our 43 DECA students took on the challenge of regionals, where they were given a real-world business scenario in their competitive category and just 10 minutes to prepare a convincing pitch for a judge. They were evaluated on performance indicators and professionalism—and our Warriors rose to the occasion with confidence and excellence.

“Our students showed tremendous courage, professionalism, and creativity," said DECA advisor Mrs. Nicole Schawang. "Watching them step into their events with confidence and represent JPII so well was inspiring. I am incredibly proud of every one of them—those who placed and those who pushed themselves outside their comfort zone. This group is exceptional, and I can’t wait to see what they accomplish at States!”

We are incredibly proud to announce that 17 JPII students placed in their events and have automatically qualified for the DECA State Competition! Several others may also have the opportunity to compete as part of team events at States.
