The JPII Chess Club recently traveled to the Sumter Civic Center to compete in the SCISA 2025 Spring High School Chess Tournament, and our Golden Warriors came ready to play! Representing JPII were Jack Hannagan, Jonah Mast, Aadi Patel, and brothers Gavin and Quinn Doran—each bringing their sharp minds and strategic skills to the board.
- The opening rounds saw Jack and Jonah dominate the first two matches with swift victories, setting the tone early. Aadi Patel launched a three-game winning streak in Round 2, displaying incredible focus and tactical finesse.
- Despite a small setback in Round 3, Jack Hannagan kept his king protected and pushed forward, finishing the tournament with a commanding 6-1 record, capturing 7th place overall out of 197 competitors—an outstanding result!
- Jonah Mast (53rd) and Aadi Patel (62nd) both secured strong 4-3 records, holding their own in a competitive field.
- Quinn Doran (136th) earned a respectable 3-4
- Gavin Doran (152nd) wrapped up the day at 2-5, showing grit in every match.
As a team, JPII placed 12th out of 28 schools—a strong showing among seasoned chess programs across the state.
