“In the Company of Good People: JPII Sophomores Grow in Faith and Community”

St. Therese of Avila once said: “What a great favor God does to those he puts in the company of good people.”

These words comprised the theme for the John Paul II Catholic School sophomore retreat Feb. 12, as 48 sophomores experienced a spirit-filled day of faith, fellowship, and camaraderie at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Beaufort.

The retreat, planned and hosted by the JPII ACTS29 Peer Ministry Team, began with Mass and ended with special time of quiet and reflection in Adoration. In between, the ACTS29 team, made up of JPII seniors, led the sophomores through a memorable day of encountering Christ through witness talks, small-group discussions, team-building activities, and prayer.

“What our students experience in their class retreats is truly a unique part of their overall experience at JPII,” said Campus Minister Deacon Brent Heathcott about the special day of faith for the 10th graders. “Our retreats provide an opportunity for students to unplug and get away from our school campus for a day to learn more about Jesus Christ, themselves and their classmates. Once again, our ACTS29 seniors showed their heart for Christ by the way they poured themselves into this retreat experience for our sophomores.”

From heartfelt prayer to moments of laughter and lively connection, the retreat reminded students that their voices, gifts, and faith matter—now and always. Our sophomores were challenged to build community and friendship with their classmates as they continue their journey through high school. ACTS29 presenters encouraged these sophomores to embrace their unique qualities and share their gifts with their classmates and the entire JPII community.

“I am deeply grateful for the ACTS29 Peer Ministry Team, our faculty chaperones and administration, our Chaplain Fr. Perry and the parents who support their children’s spiritual formation," Deacon Heathcott reflected. :May this retreat continue to inspire our 10th graders to build community with their classmates while sharing God’s love with all.”

What a blessed and beautiful day for our Golden Warriors!
