Glowing Minds & Bright Futures: JPII Students Light Up Learning With Glo Math!

Who says math class can’t be electrifying? Just prior to Halloween, JPII students traded pumpkins for highlighters and ghosts for glowing equations during Glo Math, an exciting learning experience created by JPII mathematics teacher, Nicole Schawang.

With neon lights, glow sticks, and a room buzzing with energy, students rotated through six interactive stations, tackling key math concepts while enjoying the festive spirit. From solving tricky equations to simplifying radicals and mastering slope and fraction operations, Warriors were sharpening their skills in the most glow-tastic way possible!

What is Glo Math?

Glo Math is a playful—and powerful—learning strategy where students review important math concepts using glow-themed materials. Think bright lights, glowing task cards, neon dry-erase problems, and a dose of academic Halloween magic.

“It’s one of my favorite days of the year!” shared Mrs. Schawang. “Students get to move around, collaborate, review core skills, and have a blast while doing it. When kids are having fun, they’re more engaged—and engaged learners are confident learners.”

Why It Matters

Beyond the glow sticks and fun stations, Glo Math builds skills students will use far beyond the classroom:

  • Problem-solving & critical thinking
  • Strong mathematical foundations
  • Collaboration and communication
  • Real-world decision-making and analytical ability

“These concepts show up again and again—not just in school, but in life,” Mrs. Schawang explained. “Whether they’re budgeting, working in STEM fields, or tackling college-level math, students who master these basics now will be prepared for whatever path they choose.”

Future-Ready… and Having Fun Doing It!

From glowing equations to illuminated learning moments, this Halloween math celebration reminded students that academics can be energetic, bold, and full of creativity.

At JPII, we believe learning should spark curiosity—sometimes literally! Way to shine, Warriors! Keep glowing and growing!
