Chromatography in Action: 8th Graders Uncover Hidden Colors!

Mrs. Schatzle’s 8th-grade science class wrapped up their week of exploring pure substances and mixtures with a colorful chromatography lab that separated science fact from fiction! Students investigated what really makes up the colors in black, brown, and grey markers—and the results were nothing short of amazing. Hidden hues emerged, surprising everyone and sparking curiosity about the science behind mixtures.

"This hands-on lesson wasn’t just fun; it was fundamental,' said Mrs. Schatzle. "Chromatography introduces students to real-world techniques used in chemistry, biology, and even forensic science to separate and analyze mixtures. By learning about this process, students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills while gaining a deeper understanding of how substances interact and separate."

Whether they’re future scientists or simply curious learners, this lab helps students appreciate the importance of analytical techniques, which are used in industries ranging from medicine to environmental science. Thanks to Mrs. Schatzle’s creative teaching, her students have not only mastered a key scientific concept but also discovered how vibrant science can be!
