At John Paul II Catholic School, the spirit of Thanksgiving came alive during our Friendsgiving celebration, a day filled with food, friends, and gratitude. Held annually just before Thanksgiving, Friendsgiving brings our school family together to share a meal and reflect on the blessings of community, friendship, and generosity.
This year’s gathering was a beautiful display of our school’s warmth and unity. Thanks to the incredible support of our JPII families and friends, students and staff, and Downtown Deli for their catering services, we all enjoyed a bounty of delicious dishes—each plate a reminder of the love and care that make our school so special.
“Friendsgiving is a unique tradition that reflects the best of the Thanksgiving season,” said JPII President John McCarthy. “It’s a time to give thanks not only for our blessings but also for the relationships that sustain us. It’s about creating a space where everyone feels appreciated and connected—a true embodiment of the JPII spirit.”
After lunch, students gathered in their Houses for brief announcements before heading out to the highly anticipated Powder Puff Championship game. This year's matchup saw Kolbe and Savio vying for victory, with Kolbe emerging as the champions in an exciting and competitive 31-24 game.
“To all who contributed time, food, and effort to make Friendsgiving possible, we extend our deepest gratitude,” said Kim McNab, JPII director of student life. “Your generosity enriches our school in countless ways, and this tradition would not be the same without your kindness and support. Thank you also for sharing your students with us. We are so blessed to be able to celebrate our gratitude for God's blessings as a school community.”
As we head into the Thanksgiving holiday, we give thanks for each member of our JPII family. May your tables be filled with abundance, your hearts with joy, and your homes with peace.
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at JPII!
